Static impulse
Remember James LaBrie? The popular front man of the popular, legendary, all – start, bet – you – can’t – do – this progressive metal band Dream Theater will have his own solo stint called the Static Impulse released on the 28th of September, 2010 in North America. Static Impulse will also feature metal greats such as his long time songwriting partner and keyboardist, Matt Guillorry, Drummer Peter Wildoer from Darkane to do the drums and the screams, Marco Sfogli to rock the guitars and Ray Riendeau from Halford to kick the bass. The album was said to be mixed and mastered by the world – renowned Jens Borgen, responsible for the albums of Opeth and Katatonia.
My thoughts: well, it’s a perfect blend of extreme metal and melodic hooks, not so Dream Theater – ish, matter of fact it is very far from it, it is far heavier and doesn’t rely much on progressiveness, it’s really a metal album. If you really want to get an idea of what I am talking about, you could check out James LaBrie’s MySpace official page and listen to the track “One More Time”. It is melodic, it is metal, and it is La Brie so we could expect pure eargasmic.
